Windows XP download boosts 802.11 security.
Microsoft released Monday (March 31) for download a free patch that adds Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) to both consumer and business versions of its Windows XP operating system. WPA offers an interim boost in security for 802.11 networks while the 802.11i standards effort continues its work.

WPA uses two 128-bit keys for authentication and those keys can be dynamically generated. Existing 802.11 security only uses one static key. [Hack the Planet]

Windows XP SP1 glitch could slow systems
Because of changes made in SP1 to Windows XP’s memory management system, programs that affect large blocks of memory may take up to ten times longer to load on a system running SP1 than on one without, Microsoft said. The company detailed the problem on its support Web site in a recently posted Knowledge Base article, “Programs Run Slower After You Install Windows XP SP-1″ (article #815411). [InfoWorld]

My sister and I are both using the Logitech MouseMan Dual Optical mouse and I must say, what a mouse. The MouseMan Dual features the “standard” 3button/wheel mouse configuration as well as toting an additional programmable side button and an innovative ergonomic design. The general shape of the mouse is slightly curved with a higher arc to the middle making for a comfortable fit. Perfect for people like me who make their living point-and-clicking all day. It’s a definite must have for the office. Check it out here

Oh, BTW, at the time of this posting it was selling for $27 (US). A good deal considering the $59 MSRP Logitech suggests and the $39 retail store price.

Oil shortage rocks markets.
Oil prices climb 4% as the Iraqi conflict removes supply from the market while stock markets remain weak. [BBC News | Front Page | UK Edition]

Intersting thought: In a post war Iraq a leader will be in place who could be sell the 25% of the worlds oil contained beneath Iraq to the US cheaper than ever before. What’s more, this person will be in a position to influence OPEC to do the same.

PBS (the Public Broadcasting Service) is running an informative Frontline program “The War Behind Closed Doors”, which is about America’s new foreign policy, what it is, where it came from, who is behind it, and how it shaped the events leading up to the current war with Iraq.
