An unexpected champion…

It seems that an unexpected champion is stepping forward to fight RIAA about their subpoena’s of file sharers records. And this time, RIAA is matched gun for gun.

Pac Bell’s Internet arm sues music industry over file-sharer IDs
Pacific Bell Internet Services jumped into the contentious music-downloading fray late Wednesday, filing a lawsuit against the recording industry and questioning the constitutionality of the industry’s effort to track down online music sharers. [SFGate]

All of the sudden I’m starting to like SBC more and more. You think maybe they understand that people using P2P networks are the largest consumer of non-commercial broadband and that their revenue from the higher DSL and broadband would be significantly hurt by the demise of file sharing? Nah.

Viruses being spread through SPAM…

Virus writers turn to spam
Britain’s technology managers have issued a warning about spam e-mails that act as a new way for Windows viruses to penetrate organisations.
The spam message tricks people into clicking on a link that takes them to a website but also, unseen, delivers a virus too.

Versions of the virus-bearing spam let people unsubscribe from bogus newsletters or claim to give away electronic greetings cards. [BBC]

I think this pretty much sums it up:

“Clicking on a link in a spam e-mail is the equivalent of handing a burglar the keys to your house,” said David Roberts, chief executive of Tif.

Also the article points out that clicking the courteous “Unsubscribe” link could also take you to a malicious website (as if the spam itself wasn’t bad enough?)

Versions of the virus-bearing spam let people unsubscribe from bogus newsletters or claim to give away electronic greetings cards.

New and Improved…

For those of you that missed it, Ipswitch, the die hard maker of ftp programs during the dot com revolution, has released WSFTP 8.0.

Big deal you say? How would you like to be able to drop stuff into a folder and then have that folder upstream to your server?

Well now you can. WSFTP 8.0 will upload whatever is in the file on the interval you choose. Or you could just choose to use it like their traditional FTP interface. Oh! And one more REALLLLLY nice feature Ipswitch was nice enough to add, thumbnail views of your folders and their contents.

I did some testing of the Blog Change Bot (via Popdex). It works and I think it’s a great idea. [Jenett.Radio]

IM Getting Inc’ed

Since the untimely death of BlogToaster, I’ve been without an “updated site” IM buddy. Enter Blog Change Bot.

Y’all notice anything wrong here? Two posts about the same subject. One a day after the other. The first post, a reference to where the post originated “via Popdex”, the second, nothing. Draw your own conclusions.

ON THE SUBJECT (finally) Why get a program that’ll send you 10,000 spammy aims when you can get Trillian Pro with it’s RSS aggregator. That’s right, RSS Aggregator. But wait! It does more. Check your popmail accounts, get AIM, ICQ, IRC, MSN, and Yahoo all in one customizable interface. No more having 5 services open at once. AND (!) It’s got a cool name based on a Douglas Adams character. Check out Trillian Pro today!

PS. I do not get paid by Trillian or anyone affiliated with Cerulean Studios. I just think it’s a great product.

It’ll eat your brain!

Damn you people! A pox upon you and your game!

It’s just too much like the game on TNG where everyone but Wesley (hey! he’s got a blog!) gets taken over by the game.

It’s already starting…

Already this morning my head has impacted the side of our shower surround. Not too painful but fiberglass is pretty hard. I’m just glad the previous owners of our house didn’t opt for stainless steel when they remodeled the bathroom. Luckily it wasn’t the spot where I bang my head on my desk at work. That mighta been real painful.

Of resumes and restful eyes…

Stayed up late last night making my wife a new resume. She’s in the applying stage again as her longterm sub position is ending. So if my posts seem a bit scant this morning, that’s just the 3 hours of sleep I did talking.

New Mozilla Firebird build testing…

Asa and the fine folks over in Moz land have a new build of Firebird testing.

For Asa and the Mozilla team:
Why does the build work on my wifes pc, my laptop, my work pc, but not my home pc? Any suggestions? My home pc, laptop, and my wifes pc are all running Windows XP Home.

Horst is making the switch also…

Horst: ‘I called it quits and decided to migrate my blog to Movable Type, mostly because it seems to best support the kind of things I want to do (other software supports other things better).’
