CSS Drop Shadows

Bookmarking for future use: ALA has this great article on CSS drop shadows. Very interesting way to set it up so compliant browsers (non-IE) use PNG transparency.

Toys for Xp

I have discovered the WUGNET shareware (software that you can demo before you put out any cash for it) picks over at Microsoft.com and there’s some pretty awesome little toys. Among them is this little diddy that cleans up your registry, removes dead links, redundant files, optimize your network connection, reduces your start up time and free’s up memeory by cleaning up programs running in the background, as well as optimizes your settings and allows you to personalize your computer. FREE FOR 30 DAYS>

I’ve installed and ran it and the mysterious problems I’ve been experiencing recently with windows losing my desktop and shutting down in the middle of intense operations have ceased. I’m gonna give this little toy two w00t’s.

w00t w00t!

Download it, try it, if you like it, buy it.

Interesting Drug (Morrissey reference)

One of the unforseen benefits of running Spamnet has been a reduction in viruses in my email. Even with the newest virus being announced this weekend I have yet to receive it from anyone. At work we were bombarded with infected emails yesterday but so far the inbox is clean here. Most of the emails seemed to originate from outside sources and looked like spam

*fingers crossed*

Dying of my own Infamy

Hey! Joe says I’m a blog du jour over at Fishbucket!
That’s cool!

Uhhhh…what’s a fishbucket?

Hmmm….wow….this is pretty coooolll…going to have to put Fishbucket on my list of daily excursions me thinks.

News FLASH

Can’t miss this…can’t miss this…

Sorry. If I miss commenting on this one I’ll hate myself for days….weeks….years…

U.S. topless coffee shop gets green light
Normand St Michel submitted an application with the town of Madison, Maine to open a topless coffee bar named the Heavenly Angels Coffee Shop. [Yahoo News]

We’re there dude! Mental note: don’t ask for any milk in coffee.

I Love a Rainy Day

Around the water cooler the other day I was talking with one of my colleagues….

“I hope it doesn’t rain this weekend. I hate the rain,” he said matter-of-factly.

He must have big plans I thought. “So what are you doing this weekend? Got something big planned? Picnic or something?”

“Nope. Just doing what I do every weekend,” he replied.

“Oh yeah? What’s that?”

“Just hanging out at home and work on the computer all day long.”

PSA

I’ve never been much for money, although it is nice not to have to worry about where your next meal is coming from. I’ve never been much on the whole popularity thing either, crowds bother me. But when it comes to my work, give credit where credit is due. I work hard. I spend many hours furthering my knowledge, honing my skills and working on new ones. Often I push myself to the point of complete exhaustion.

All I’m asking is that you give me credit for my work. Thanks.

Coherent Thoughts

Using DIV (VISIBLE) tags to hide Flash/Shockwave from people whose browsers don’t support it. Replacing said Flash/Shockwave with static image.

Pretty easy to do, huh? One more reason to use CSS.

Weblogs.com

It generally takes me about 10 minutes or so to write a post. On most days I post one or two things, no biggie. Those are the days when I’m awake and I’ve got something to say. Often, since I post before running into work, I only have a half hour to say whatever I’m going to say. So there’s nothing like getting this error every damn day…

“Ping ‘http://rpc.weblogs.com/RPC2′ failed: Ping error: Thanks for the ping, however we can only accept one ping every half-hour. It’s cool that you’re updating so often, however, if I may be so bold as to offer some advice — take a break, you’ll enjoy li…”

Well isn’t that “speshial”…maybe we should all just stop pinging weblogs.com all together?

Let’s be rational…breathe deeply…relax…I’m sure Dave’s got a great reason for it like making sure no one is flooding the server with pings to push their weblog rating up but…wouldn’t 5 or 10 minutes be more realistic?

Yeah…whatever.
