On Podcasting

This weekend I’ll try to get my first viable podcast up on the web. I’ll have to do a bit of tweaking to the RSS feed to get the MovableType RSS to support enclosures then you can add me to your iPodder.

Right now I don’t have a timeline as to how many podcasts I’ll do or what the content will be. Most likely it’ll be a mish-mash of nothing-in-particular with some other-stuff thrown in for good measure.

Presidential Debate 1

OMFG. Bush can’t even remember what day the World Trade Center was attacked. It’s September 11th you monkey.

Update: Bush is fumbling and having a problem keeping his composure. Kerry is also visibly shaken by some of the Presidents rebutals.

Mac users rejoice: .Mac-iDisk add storage

For those of you who use .Mac, you now have 250mb of storage for your .Mac email and iDisk. One of the coolest new features is that you can adjust how your .Mac space is divide between your email and iDisk so if you need more room for email attachments, simply bump up your email storage. Is that cool or what?

What Are They Hiding: EPA tells employees to keep quiet

EPA Imposes Gag Rule on its Employees: “

Bush Greenwatch Print Page

The Bush administration is noted for its strict control of
“leaks” to the press and its discipline regarding perceived acts
of dissent.

Now, President Bush’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has
ordered its staff to “refrain from answering” questions from the
news media, according to an agency memo obtained by Public
Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER). [1]

The gag order was issued by Bharat Marthur, the top EPA official
for the Midwestern region. In a memo to all regional staff,
Marthur forbids EPA staff from initiating contact with the press
or responding to any press queries. Even EPA’s designated
spokespeople must now “report their conversations” with
reporters to the Office of Public Affairs.

Let’s try to remember WHO we work for, ump-kay? As an informed, educated, voting, tax-paying, patriotic citizen crap like this pisses me off. Remember, next time you see your elected official ask them “I’m a voter. Shouldn’t you be kissing my ass or something?”

The Volcano Your Own Backyard

So there was a big earthquake in Parkfield, earthquake capital of the world and Mt. St. Helens is rumbling again but the real place everyone SHOULD be watching is here.

This is a faulted, highly volcanic are with cinder cones, lava flows, and calderas. This is the stuff that give geologists woodies.

Geologically speaking, the Mammoth Lakes/Long Valley Caldera area is young. Since the 1980’s the Mammoth Lakes area has been under the watchful eye of geologists. Ironically, the area bears a striking resemblance to the Pierce Brosnan film, Dante’s Peak in which a small town built in the shadow of a volcano was destroyed.

There’s your geology lesson for the day. Hope you enjoyed it. Happy volcano watching!

Mac’s and dead Mic’s

Well damn. I was working on getting an environment set up for podcasting last night when my mic went out. It’s old. It’s a piece of crap so I went out and got a new one. Worked great. I skyped a couple of friends and we chatted for a while.

When I went to podcast I could hijack our skype conversation no problem. I started Garage Band, set up a voice channel, started audio hijack and my mic was dead.

I checked the audio config and the internal mic works just fine but my new headset mic doesn’t get any input at all.

I tested on my wife’s laptop running XP and the mic works awesome so somewhere down the line something is shutting down the line-in port on my Mac. I’m pretty sure the mic input is OK.

Oddly enough I’ve encountered the same kind of problem on my Linux box where an app had taken control of the input from the mic and wouldn’t release it.

Anyone with any insight feel free to email.

Sick Kids

The little guy woke up extra early this morning vomiting and with a high fever. Not good considering we were just all getting well after an “end of summer headcold” that just about everyone here in the Central Valley gets.

Nothing some Childrens Advil, some coffee (for me), and a trip to the pediatrician won’t cure.

Hopefully it’s nothing too serious.

Updated: Well, it isn’t too serious, it’s just the stomache flu. Unfortunately since Daddy is the one who makes everything feel better and comforts the child, it’s Daddy who is also now sick.

Looks like I’ll be home today.

Where are my golden leaves?

This taken from todays weather forecast:

A mild Autumn day is ahead to start the work and school week. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80’s with mostly sunny skies. Expect slightly cooler weather tomorrow through the weekend with highs in the lower 80’s. There’s a slight chance of showers for the Sierra tomorrow night through Thursday.

Anywhere else in the world calls that “summer”.

Anyone with leaves and temperatures in the 50’s wanna trade? I’ll make you a good deal.

Getting to the top

Wanna know how to become of of the first things I read in the morning on my aggregator? Change your name to A.

How F**ckin’ American are you?

Blame it on Adam Curry for passing this around.
