Konfabulous!

I found a widget, tonight, that had just been added for Konfabulator and allowed you to check your Gmail. Not a new idea but the approach was a little different. This widget uses Gmail’s atom feeds to offer you a small preview of the email messages in your account. Pretty cool but so far the atom feed doesn’t list things you have sorted only what’s still residing in your Inbox itself.

So, I’m still looking for something that will tell me when I have Gmail even if it is sorted into a folder and how many I have. One criteria I have is that it must work independently of a browser so something that resides in the bar or works via Konfabulator is better. Oh, btw, if you haven’t visited the Konfabulator site recently I suggest you do. It appears they’re counting down until the release of something big. Could it be the PC version? Let’s hope so. ;)
Oh! for the record the Gmail checker widget works pretty damn good. Kudos to Matthew Lewinski.

Of Google Alerts and Gmail

I’ve noticed something about my Gmail account and the Google alerts I’ve subscribed to, sometimes they send the alert is classified as a different Google alert I’ve set up and is consequently labeled wrong in my inbox.

Strange, huh? At first I thought there was some content to the alert that might have been similar but then I began investigating and still see nothing which might cause the alert to be labeled wrong. Very strange.

It doesn’t bother me though, it still gets to it’s final destination OK it just seems a bit odd.

Sail 2points off the Starboard Beam!

I’ve always been a huge fan of movies with the “tall ships”. In fact, I’ve seen Captain Blood and Captain Horatio Hornblower R.N. more times than I can count (Don’t remember these movies? look them up in the IMDB. Don’t know what the IMDB is? What cave are YOU living in and how did you get the internet in there?)

Anyway, I watched Master and Commander: Far Side of the World yesterday and I have to say it’s a great movie in the true spirit of all the classic sailing movies. Peter Wier did an excellent job. Russel Crowe was fabulous. I’m going to have to add this one to my collection.

Any takers?

I’ve got a dollar (while it’s still good in America) that says a certain political party (here to remain unnamed) will claim the recent video of Bin Laden calling for voters to oust Bush is “because Bin Laden is afraid of Bush”. Anyone wanna take my bet?

Could it be true?

Mac’s are cheaper and faster.

Of Rejected Comments and Emails

For some weird reason Joe’s comment on my “sneaky bastard” post was rejected this morning but that’s ok, Joe was able to send me his comment via email. This brings up an important point, I’m perfectly cool if you happen to see something on my site you want to talk about, find an interesting link you think I’d enjoy, or you just want to shoot the breeze.

Drop me a line! I like getting email! You can reach me at loyd+@+dailything+.com (delete the plus signs).

Sneaky Bastard

Hey! Joe listened to read me before I got up. Ooops! Dane pointed out that Joe probably read my post considering I had the URL to the podcast all jacked up. My apologies.

Live @ The Daily Thing

The second podcast for Live @ The Daily Thing 10-26-04(9.1mb) is up and floating on the cloud. In this edition we talk about Konfabulator, announce my new project Yosemiteblog.com and waiting for the cops.

Ooops! Sorry. I put the wrong URL for the podcast. That’s what you get for being up at midnight.

Netflix Lowers Prices

From an email today:

Over the last five years, we’ve grown the Netflix community to over 2.2 million satisfied members. We appreciate your business, and our goal has always been to provide you great service.

Since our price increase in June, some of our members have expressed concerns about the new pricing. We’ve listened to this feedback and are pleased to inform you that we’re lowering the price of your Netflix 3-at-a-time program from $21.99 per month to 17.99 per month.

Konfabulator

Konfabulator rocks! At first I was like, “Ok. Another shiny bauble to eat up cycles and hog desktop realestate on my Mac”, but the more and more I played with it the more I liked it.

In case you haven’t heard Konfabulator is a widget based environment that runs over/under the OS bringing the things you use the most within easy reach of your finger tips. For the date-oblivious like me that means there’s a calendar on the desktop so I don’t need to open iCal all the time.

On a more awesome note, Konfabulator is coming to Windows.

Konfabulator Journal: …I’m the poor soul who’s been working on finishing up the Windows version of Konfabulator. Yes, a die hard Mac guy is writing the Windows version. But I have to say, it’s been a blast so far. I’m actually enjoying doing Windows stuff, and I am very happy to be using development tools that work.

As far as progress, let’s just say we are in the final stretch. I won’t be giving away what works and what doesn’t at present, but it is very cool seeing your favorite Mac widgets work on the PC. When this thing is finally out there, We’ll be releasing a document on how to do cross-platform widgets to help you ensure the widest audience for your cool creations.

This release is going to be nothing short of amazing. And we have plans going forward that will make your head spin!

Other little goodies I’ve got running are a real time weather radar widget, a goodle search widget on my desktop, and the Sentinel Dome cam image in Yosemite.
