Modbee: “Embarrassing calls at work. Threats of jail and even violence. Improper withdrawals from bank accounts. An increasing number of consumers are complaining of abusive techniques from some companies that are part of a new breed of debt collectors.
They are debt buyers, outfits that acquire unpaid bills from credit card firms and other credit providers for pennies on the dollar and then try to collect. Some of these companies go after bills so old that consumers no longer can be sued for them in court or punished for them on their credit reports.
As the amount of consumer debt has risen over the years, so, too, has the number of these firms, growing from about a dozen firms in 1996 to more than 500 today. Industry officials say the firms provide a real benefit to indebted consumers, letting them pay off their bills at steep discounts. But industry critics ‚Äî plaintiff attorneys, consumer advocates and regulators ‚Äî say that for some firms, the demand to make a profit on the debts they buy has resulted in the increasing use of heavy-handed, and sometimes illegal, tactics.”

Holy Crap Mac users! Camino 0.9a2 rocks!
The new browser features a Firefox-like use of tabs while maintaining the Cocoa built UI that allows the user access to all the Macs native services and scripts. You can even change the default browser from Camino! That’s something you couldn’t do from Firefox.
Camino just became my default browser. PC users, be jealous. Be VERY jealous.
OMG. This rocks. I nearly bust a gut.
Joey deVilla’s: Someone on the #joiito IRC channel quipped that the “Vista” in Windows Vista (the next version of the Microsoft Windows) is an acronym for the top five Windows problems:
Viruses
Instability
Spyware
Trojans
Adware
Spyware and adware are serious enough problems that according to Bob and Greg from Tucows’ shareware department, spyware and adware removal software is the most popular and profitable shareware category right now.I think that “Vista” could be short for “Vaunted Imminent Scoble-Touted Application”.
It’s not too late to switch to a Mac Mini. They’re only $499.
My camera is almost always set on RAW format when I’m shooting. It’s what happens next that really makes the difference though. Rather than using Adobe’s connection software or I photo I use theAdobe DNG Converter to transfer my photos from my camera and save them in a specified folder.
What’s so special about DNG format? I guess you haven’t seen a DNG created image. DNG (Digital Negative) format was created to work around the proprietary formats camera manufacturers were creating. It’s non-destructive so it doesn’t harm the original file and will embed it in the DNG file if you tell it to. It’s archival quality so the photos come out fantastic. I think they give a sharper, crisper feel to the images, but that’s just my opinion.
You can read more about the DNG format and what you can do with it by visiting Adobe’s DNG page. The converter is free, all you need to be doing is shooting in RAW format.
