Done with it? Delete it!

One cool new feature I’ve found on the iPhone is it gives you the option to delete videos from it’s memory to save space when you’ve completed watching them.

I can see this as leading to the ability to download movies from the iTunes store and then delete them when you’re done. Hopefully iTunes will know you’ve bought the movie and it’s not in your inventory so it’ll download it when you start your Mac next. Otherwise it’d be a big waste of money.

New Toys for the Apple Fan Boys

We just got back from the Apple store where I picked up one of the new aluminum wired Apple keyboards and I must say, it’s honestly the best keyboard I’ve ever used. No I mean it. I’m a peripheral sort of guy and this is really the best keyboard I’ve owned for both Mac and PC. Typing is VERY easy and really fluid.

We also grabbed the $19 iPod video cable from Apple. It works with any color iPod and plugs directly into the headphone jack. From there plug it into the RCA jacks of any TV or converter. No problem. Be sure to go into your Video Preferences on your iPod and enable TV out. You can set it to ask you each time so you have the option of showing it on TV or reviewing.

Google Presents Presentations to the World

So I’m looking at the new Google Presentation, part of Google Docs. The similarities to other presentation applications look like anyone who has ever made a presentation will feel right at home. Duplicate slide, insert image, change theme, share, publish; everything you’d expect but it’s all on the web. Pretty cool.

I don’t think I’ll be changing from Apple’s Keynote anytime soon though. It has a LOT of catching up to do to get to where Keynote is. But Powerpoint? Watchout.

Get Your Edugroove On

Here’s something cool and new: iTunes is now offering iTunesU, a collection of lectures from Yale, Harvard, Stanford and other universities across the nation. I just downloaded Yvon Choinard, famous Yosemite big-wall climber and president of Patagonia clothing talking at Stanford University. Nice part is it’s FREE.

Buying for Baby

This weekend we picked up a stroller with an infant car seat for the new baby and a new mattress for the crib that my oldest son had been sleeping in. He has a new “big boy” bed. Picking a quality stroller/infant car seat combo was the hardest part though. Most of the reviews are from 5 years ago. I find that INCREDIBLE considering how big the market is and how much things have changed in 5 years.

We ended up getting the Evenflow Aura Sierra from Target. It’s very similar to the one we used 5 years ago when Zac was a baby. The major selling points were, and I’ve tested and used it before so you can trust me, it’s incredibly easy to collapse with 1 hand (because the baby is in the other), it’s easy to unfold, and the Z shaped hand is uber comfortable.

We looked at the more expensive systems (*cough*chicco) and I didn’t see the a significant difference in quality or easy of use. In fact I thought it was MORE difficult. So we’re using the Evenflow.

Hey it works. Does what it’s supposed to and does it good. That’s good enough for me.

Upgrading MarsEdit to 2.o

I did upgrade my copy of MarsEdit to the new version 2.o and honestly, I like the old style better. Yes, the new version does look more like all the new Mac applications but that’s part of the problem, it gets lost in the shuffle.

Before it stood out nicely with the sidebar and unique shape. Now, it’s just another boxy application. I’m also a bit peeved you can’t control the width of the column that shows your blogs. It’s fixed width which means to see the title of the posts I have to expand the overall window. Not cool.

Also I’m not a huge fan of the new icon set. It looks more like something you’d find on a Linux box running KDE or ICE.

I wonder what else is out there? Suggestions? Throw me a bone. Must be a Mac application.

Cleaning House a Bit

I’m working on clearing all the RSS feeds in NetNewsWire. When you have over 14,000 unread items it makes NNW a bit doggy.
