Check This Out: Bush Doesn’t Want You to Know There’s A Recession

Holy crap! The Bush Administration is going to shut down the web page that gives stats on what the economy is doing?!

http://www.economicindicators.gov: “Due to budgetary constraints, the Economic Indicators service (http://www.economicindicators.gov) will be discontinued effective March 1, 2008.”

Ok…ok…enough is enough. They don’t have money to run a website that I can run for $95 a year but they want the biggest budget ($3.1 trillion) in the history of the United States passed?

New iPhones and iPod Touches Debut with More Storage

The Apple Store went down for a few minutes this morning as Apple unveiled a 16gb iPhone ($499) and 16gb ($399) and 32gb ($499) iPod Touch.

Very cool.

HDR Sucks - Take a Photography Class Instead

HDR does to photography what Thomas Kinkade did to painting. The majority of what you see is over-saturated, poor examples of people not knowing how to use their equipment. I mean, c’mon, grass is NOT supposed to look like that. Don’t get me wrong, there are some really good HDR images. I think knowing how to use your camera in the same situation would have yielded a much better result.

I’m not going to show an HDR image with this post because I don’t want to hurt any particular persons feelings but you can check some out on Flickr.

Make Your Own Theme for iGoogle

So if you’re like me you probably use iGoogle as your home page but did you know you can customize the header (image behind the words google) with your own pictures or graphics? Here’s a cool tutorial from the gang at Google on how to make your own. Not really that hard at all.

Google Developer’s Guide: “A theme is custom design for the iGoogle page. You define a theme in an XML file that contains key-value pairs for iGoogle page attributes, such as background and text color. A theme can be as simple as a color setting for the header background and iGoogle logo, or it can include multiple images and dynamic behavior.

A theme has one or more skins. A skin is a particular design for the iGoogle page. For example, you could have a theme that displays different skins depending on the time of day.

Each skin is represented in a themes specification by a different ConfigMap (configuration map). A theme is essentially a collection of configuration maps. “

Microsoft Offers $44.6 Billion for the Ailing Yahoo

In one of those things that make you say “HOLY CRAP!”, Microsoft has offered to buy the ailing Yahoo! for $44.6 billion.

BBC: “The offer, contained in a letter to Yahoo’s board, is 62% above Yahoo’s closing share price on Thursday.

Yahoo cut its revenue forecasts earlier this week and said it would have to spend an additional $300m this year trying to revive the company.

It has been struggling in recent years to compete with Google, which has also been a competitor to Microsoft.

“We have great respect for Yahoo, and together we can offer an increasingly exciting set of solutions for consumers, publishers and advertisers while becoming better positioned to compete in the online services market,” Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer said.

Its chief executive, Jerry Yang, announced on Tuesday that he intended to lay off 1,000 staff as part of a restructuring plan.

Terry Semel, who stepped down as chief executive last June, also quit as non-executive chairman on Thursday. “

I’m not sure if this will help or not but as a person who uses a lot of Yahoo! services I’m a bit concerned. Is this the fatal bullet to the head for Flickr?
