How To Tell If You Have A Meth Lab Next Door

I found this little tidbit over at the Mercury News and thought it was interesting enough to repost. Methamphetamine is a serious problem in the Central Valley which is often labeled the "methamphetamine capital of the world". This clip comes from the Minnesota Department of Health and the California Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement.

Some signs that a house or apartment may be the site of a meth lab:

SCENT A smell of chemicals, including sweet, bitter, ammonia or solvent smells.

MOVEMENT Unusual, restless activity at all hours, heavy traffic, late-night visitors.

SECURITY MEASURES Cameras or baby monitors outside, covered or blacked-out windows.

EXTERIOR Depressions in yard, burn pits, stained soil or dead vegetation, indicating chemical dumping.

GARBAGE Waste including packages of cold pills, epsom salts or rock salt; empty containers of antifreeze, white gas, ether, starting fluids, lye, drain openers, paint thinner, acetone, alcohol; camping fuel cylinders, propane tanks; sheets or coffee filters stained red or yellow; funnels, hoses, clamps.
