No more, please...

So I've enlisted myself among the ranks of people currently doing the Atkins diet. Yes, yes, I know. I'm a sell out, but when you step on the scale and it doesn't go any farther, it's time to do the diet and excercise thing.

The good news is I've lost about 10 pounds in 5 days. Chock it up to no sugar, soda, candy, fastfood, and caffeine. I think sugar was my worst vice at 2 tablespoons (the big ones for all you non-cookers) per 24oz cup of coffee. That's pretty sweet. I was pretty bad about soda too. Almost always had a Pepsi or Coke open. Since I can't do artificial sweeteners it's either decaf tea or water. Lots and lots of water. I feel so much better though.

There's only one drawback to the whole high protein, lots of meat diet, I'm getting sick of eating meat.

Quote of the day...
My Dad used to say, "You can satisfy some of the people some of the time, but you can't satisfy all of the people all the time."

The laws of buying and selling...

The name of the game is Blogshares and the general idea is the same as the stock market. Buy low, sell high. Buying a stock is fun. It's great to watch your stock go up, and sad to watch it go down. In the end though you must remember one thing, you don't win, or lose money until you sell.

So this morning, on advice of my close personal financial advisor, me, I sold my 700 shares of Jenett.Radio.

Original Price: $0.55
Sale Price: $3.16

Original Investment: $385
Gross Return: $2212.95

TOTAL EARNINGS: $1829.14

So. I've more than quadrupled my original investment. Thanks Joe!

Mr. Big-SUV-Guy...

Hey Mr. Whoever you are in your big SUV. The guy who cuts me off then pulls infront of me and slows below the speed limit. The guy who sits at the green light not paying attention. This one's for you Mr. Big-SUV-Guy.

Whenever you pass me, you in your big SUV vehicle I think of the gas prices and how you probably pay $75 (30 gallon tank average) to fill up.When I think of the 240 miles (8 mpg city) you MIGHT be able to drive on that tank and the $18 I pay to drive just as far...well...now you know why I laugh when I see you filling up at the gas station.

Tales of Life with an Accordian...
This from The Phil. A tail of intrigue, despair, deceit, and romance. A truly good read for your head.

What happened to me and the new girl (or, "The girl who cried Webmaster")
At least a couple of readers of this blog guessed that something was wrong when the "Ten Cool Things About the New Girl" blog entry from last week got yanked. They were right, but they probably had no idea how wrong things went. I'm going to tell the story -- with names changed and a few non-essential details omitted. I'm trying to balance telling my story with protecting people's privacy. Hopefully, I've succeeded.

Then I'm going to take a week-long holiday from this blog. I'm annoyed and exhausted, I have a considerable load of work to take care of, and after you've read what appears below, you'll probably agree that I've earned it.

Blackmail...
Comcast increases Internet rates unless customers get cable
Consumer advocates charge that Comcast, now the country's largest cable operator, is adopting a predatory pricing strategy to fend off satellite TV companies. [SignOn San Diego}

I've actually been contemplating dropping AT&T in favor of a DISH service. Now that they've become Comcast it's almost a given. In our area they are forcing the upgrade to digital cable at a higher rate even though I have yet to see them stringing new lines in my neighborhood.

It's too late now....

Protesters Across the Nation Try to 'Stop Business as Usual'. Thousands of protesters converged on plazas, bridges and federal buildings to proclaim their opposition to war. By Kate Zernike and Dean E. Murphy. [New York Times: NYT HomePage]

Why is it thousands want to protest the war yet thousands can't make up there mind to vote for the same candidate or just don't vote?

The rule is, "If you don't vote, you can't bitch about the government."

Protesting the war NOW isn't going to do crap. We're in and we're doing this. Support our troops. When the election of 2004 comes around make your voice heard in the strongest way possible, vote. Then maybe we won't have to worry about chad in Florida.

The proof is in the pudding....
Study: Spell-Check Can Make Writing Worse
How might you drag a good writer's work down to the level of a lesser scribe? Try the spell-check button.

A study at the University of Pittsburgh indicates spell-check software may level the playing field between people with differing levels of language skills, hampering the work of writers and editors who place too much trust in the software.[Yahoo! News]

I find this interesting because I've seen proof that this is true. What's more, people place trust in a program that allows you to ADD misspellings and improper grammar to its database. If you don't believe me try adding your name to the Microsoft Word Dictionary. I bet you can.

Just like in the movies!....

NY Times: Software Pioneer Quits Board of Groove. Mitchell D. Kapor, a personal computer industry software pioneer and a civil liberties activist, has resigned from the board of Groove Networks after learning that the company's software was being used by the Pentagon as part of its development of a domestic surveillance system. [Tomalak's Realm]

I've seen this movie! It's called Real Genius with Val Kilmer.
