On a rare note, files just recently released to the British Archive confirm reports that American pilots were ordered to shoot down UFO’s spotted over the English countryside during the height of the cold war.

Yahoo! News: “One pilot said he was seconds away from firing 24 rockets at the object, which moved erratically and gave a radar reading like ‘a flying aircraft carrier.’

The pilot, Milton Torres, now 77 and living in Miami, said it spent periods motionless in the sky before reaching estimated speeds of more than 7,600 mph.

After the alert, a shadowy figure told Torres he must never talk about the incident and he duly kept silent for more than 30 years.

His story was among dozens of UFO sightings in defense ministry files released at the National Archives in London.
In a written account, Torres described how he scrambled his F-86 D Saber jet in calm weather from the Royal Air Force base at Manston, Kent in May 1957.

‘I was only a lieutenant and very much aware of the gravity of the situation. I felt very much like a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest,’ he said.

‘The order came to fire a salvo of rockets at the UFO. The authentication was valid and I selected 24 rockets.
‘I had a lock-on that had the proportions of a flying aircraft carrier,’ he added. ‘The larger the airplane, the easier the lock-on. This blip almost locked itself.’

At the last moment, the object disappeared from the radar screen and the high-speed chase was called off.
He returned to base and was debriefed the next day by an unnamed man who ‘looked like a well-dressed IBM salesman.’

‘He threatened me with a national security breach if I breathed a word about it to anyone,’ he said.”

Evidently it was the difference between $20 for a blow job and $1.25 for 3 minutes. Hey the guy was just being frugal. These are tough times you know.

For almost 60 years drug makers have been touting the safety of their over-the-counter medicines for kids but now suddenly, when prescription medications are at their highest, they’re not safe anymore.

washingtonpost.com: “The makers of cold and cough medications announced yesterday they are voluntarily warning parents not to give their products to children younger than 4, a move negotiated in private with federal drug regulators over the past six months.

Medications with the new warning labels will appear in stores and pharmacies immediately, though experts continue to debate at what age the over-the-counter remedies may be safe and effective. The new labels also advise against using antihistamines to sedate youngsters.

Last winter, the companies agreed to discourage the use of the products in children younger than 2.

Each year, drug companies sell 95 million packs of pediatric cold medicine, generating about $300 million in revenue. More than 7,000 children are rushed to hospitals annually because of adverse reactions, primarily the result of accidental overdoses. The most common complications include hives, dizziness and difficulty breathing.”

Lets do the math people…95 million x $100 per prescription medication. Does this not reek of a scam? I think the drug manufacturers are pulling a fast one and they’ve even got the FDA hoodwinked into believing it.

“Common complications include hives, dizziness and difficulty breathing.” Have you ever watched one of the TV commercials for medicines now days? One commercial for a diabetes medicine promises to keep your insulin under control but warns it shouldn’t be used to treat diabetes, the malady it’s being sold to treat. Its side effects include dizziness, nausea, nose bleeds, loss of vision and in some cases…death.

I smell a rat.

NASA released data today showing the extent the arctic sea ice, located over the North Pole, had diminished due to rising global temperatures. The decline in sea ice is the largest since satellites were first used to monitor thec conditions of the worlds ice packs over 20 years ago.

National Snow and Ice Data Center: “On September 12, 2008 sea ice extent dropped to 4.52 million square kilometers (1.74 million square miles). This appears to have been the lowest point of the year, as sea has now begun its annual cycle of growth in response to autumn cooling.

The 2008 minimum is the second-lowest recorded since 1979, and is 2.24 million square kilometers (0.86 million square miles) below the 1979 to 2000 average minimum. “

Today Dane went to an online news aggregator in Chrome and the “red page of death” came up about my site. It said the online aggregator site was contaminated because it linked to my site.

Seven time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong announced yesterday he is returning to professional bicycle racing for the 2009 circuit, just 4 short years since he retired from professional competition in 2005. Lance has been spending his time in retirement working for his cancer foundation, Live Strong, competing in marathons and doing some off road cycling. Many feel Lance will have a hard time getting back into the groove of professional competition after his 4 year hiatus and may not get a chance to wear the yellow jersey in the 2009 Tour de France.
